EPAA-Case studies training: Use of new approach methodologies (NAMs) and Defined Approaches (DAs) for skin sensitisation regulatory decision-making

Several New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) are available for Skin sensitisation as OECD test guidelines. They can be used as part of a weight-of-evidence or integrated using a Defined Approach (DA) to assess Skin Sensitisation, thereby reducing or replacing the need for animal testing.
In collaboration with Altertox Academy, the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to animal testing (EPAA) will organize this WC11 satellite training session on Sunday 23 August 2020, from 9:00-16:00, at the MECC (Maastricht Exhibition and Conference Centre) to share end-user experience on how to use NAMs and DAs for skin sensitisation in regulatory decision-making.
During this practical training, case studies covering different sectors (Cosmetics, Fragrances, Agrochemicals and Chemicals) will be presented. Experts from different EPAA industry members will demonstrate how to use different NAMs and DAs for Skin Sensitisation Hazard or Risk Assessment. An introductory lecture is foreseen on history of skin sensitisation, NAMs and DAs’ development and their status. Participants will build confidence in the use of DAs that demonstrate equivalent or superior performance to the LLNA (murine local lymph node assay) when compared to existing animal and human data for skin sensitization.
Participation to the training will be free of charge but as the seats are limited (40 places), pre-registration should be done (https://academy.altertox.be/eventbrite-event/wc11-epaa-skin-sensitisation-satellite-training). Confirmation of registration will be sent by end of June.

The EPAA is a Public-Private Partnership across seven industry sectors and between European Commission and Industry stakeholders. Launched in 2005, it gathers 37 companies, 8 European trade federations and 5 Directorates-General of the European Commission.
